Exploring the Berry

By far the best way is on foot, horseback , bicycle or motorcycle and we can accommodate any of these modes of transport.

We have a large secure barn to keep you dry, whether packing saddle bags for your bike, motorcycle or horse and we have plenty of grazing and fresh water for your mount's stay. The region is crossed by miles of well maintained tracks, some going back to Roman times and these are opened to walkers, cyclist and horse riders.

Les pas de Maitres sonneurs GR 46
A wonderful walking track which goes from Nohant, the home of Georges Sand, to Huriel in the Allier.
It's the subject of G Sand's book “Les Maitres Sonneurs” which tells the story of a band of mule drovers from the Allier encountering a group of peasant musicians of the southern Berry and their consequent adventures, fights and romances.

At 180 kms long it's quite an endeavour, but there are sections and loops which can easily be tackled in a day or even just an hour.

There is a group of traditional Berrichone musicians who re-enact the story by covering the distance with mules, and many walkers can join them on this adventure.

The 5 Mills walkSwallow
A local walk of 18 kms which takes in the 5 mills in the commune of Vigoulant,
including Le Moulin de Barre and meets up with the GR 46 at Belfat, 3 kms from us.
It 's a heavily shaded track crossed by rivers and streams. Ideal on a hot afternoon.
